Symptoms of BCC

Basal cell carcinoma is a slow-growing type of non-melanoma skin cancer that most commonly affects elderly people. An estimated 90% of BCC lesions are caused by UV ray exposure over many years, usually appearing on the face or other sun-exposed skin areas. These skin growths can develop over decades, slowly evolving from mutated cells in cancer. The symptoms of BCC lesions include:

  • Red patches of skin that do not go away
  • Shiny bumps
  • Growths with rolled or elevated edges
  • Indentation in the middle of an elevated bump
  • Open sores that bleed or crust over
  • Scar-like skin growths

BCCs grow slowly, but they can cause extensive skin, tissue and bone damage if left untreated. If you have a skin growth that lasts for more than 2-3 weeks, you should always have it examined by a skin cancer specialist such as Dr. Reschly. BCCs rarely spread to other areas of the body but they can still be a serious health hazard.

Removal of basal cell carcinoma can be performed by Dr. Reschly at our facility in Lawrenceville, GA.
