Rosacea Treatment

Red bumps, visible blood vessels and facial skin inflammation are some of the signs of rosacea. This skin condition has cycles of flare ups that can last for several weeks or months, then improve until another episode occurs. Rosacea can be a very intrusive and aggravating disease that can impact your appearance and cause ongoing discomfort. If you suffer from rosacea and want relief, come see us at MJR Dermatology. Dr. Matthew Reschly is an experienced, board certified dermatologist that offers advanced rosacea treatment at our facility in Lawrenceville, GA.

What Causes Rosacea?

The exact cause of rosacea is not known, but it is believed to be a combination of genetic, environmental and lifestyle risk factors. Like many skin conditions, it may be related to an abnormal immune system response that attacks the skin cells. Light-skinned individuals are at higher risk for this condition, and those assigned female at birth are more likely to experience rosacea, usually in their 30-40s. Anyone can develop rosacea, but a family history of the disease is one of the biggest risk factors.

Rosacea flare ups are usually triggered by something the patient did or encountered. Extreme temperatures, heavy alcohol consumption, spicy foods, stress, wind/sun exposure and stress are some of the possible triggers that can stimulate a flare up.

Rosacea Symptoms

Rosacea symptoms may begin with mild flushing of the skin, usually on the cheeks. The symptoms can become increasingly more visible, with bumps and blood vessels (spider veins) covering the face. Rosacea rashes are often mistaken for acne with pus-filled pustules. Some of the other symptoms include:

  • Swollen, inflamed skin
  • Burning, hot sensation
  • Dry eyes and swollen eyelids
  • Thickened skin on the nose (rhinophyma)

Rosacea can be embarrassing for many people due to the changes in the skin color and texture. Ocular rosacea can make the eyes look tired and older. With the right treatment, flare ups can be minimized and the discomfort can be lessened.

At MJR Dermatology, Dr. Reschly can devise a treatment plan designed to address your specific rosacea symptoms. While there is not a cure, with the right therapies you can obtain relief and have fewer flare ups.
